The Naked and Famous - Punching In A Dream

Its been a while since I posted anything but here's a new song by The Naked and Famous. I'll be posting a lot more now that the holidays are over.

Tuesday, December 7

I'm So Jo - Air

Below is a track from Australian band, I'm So Jo. "Air" has a great 80's sound with a little electronic feel.

So I´m Jo - Air by modularfield

Kid Cudi - Mr. Rager

New song from Kid Cudi's new album. One of the best tracks on the album.

Starfucker - Julius

New song by Starfucker...I'm gonna bet this band never makes it to the radio.

Tuesday, November 23

Cut Copy - Take Me Over

From Cut Copy's highly anticipated follow up to In Ghost Colours, "Take Me Over" brings back CC's familar synth sound with a little afrobeat flare. Check out the track below.

Mika - One Foot Boy

This comes from my friend Buck, sounds a lot like Passion Pit. Enjoy

Ratatat - Neckbrace

Patrick Wolf - Time of My Life

Very Sufjan Stevensesque. Not bad at all and I really like the violin

[Album Review + Album Stream] Matt & Kim - Sidewalks

"Matt & Kim face an interesting dilemma. They are a duo that has, for better or for worse, become defined by its breakout hit, the infectious “Daylight.” The song has become their calling card, the song that best encapsulates their vibrant energy. “Daylight” has been in TV shows, video games, and (shudder) in a Bacardi advertisement. So how do they prevent fading into the past, a footnote in the book of one hit wonders?

Well, for one, they make a third album that seeks to replicate the unbound enthusiasm that defines that hit, packing as much joyous pop into ten songs as you can imagine."

From PMA, click the link to stream the entire album

Iron & Wine - Trapeze Swinger

Really old song by Iron & Wine. I hadnt heard it in a while, thought I'd post it.

Monday, November 1

Chemical Brothers - Another Wolrd

Not a fan at all of The Chemical Brothers but I do like this song a lot. I heard it the other day for the HBO promo for Avatar. Lyrics are a little one dimensional but its got a great feel to it.

Wednesday, October 27

Gotye - Eyes Wide Open

New single from Australian indie pop band, Gotye. Download the track for free at PMA.

Tuesday, October 26

Egyptian Hip Hop - Moon Crooner

As far as I know, this Manchester band has never step foot in Cairo nor do they exhibit any form of rap, but I do dig their 80's synth feel. More info, visit the bands Myspace page.

Monday, October 25

Urban Outfitters - Free Music Mondays

School of Seven Bells (Active Child Remix)? I guess I do know what I'm doing.

Thursday, October 21

Silver Swans - Secrets

This dream/bedroom pop song really caught my ear. Secrets is a very hypnotic track that has a great feel start to finish. From Silver Swans Facebook page,  "Silver Swans play soft dreamlike club infused pop songs that fly somewhere in the atmosphere of Stars and School Of Seven Bells."

Monday, October 18

Best Coast - Boyfriend

New video for Best Coast's "Boyfriend." I've seen this everywhere so I decided to post it. Personally, I think the song is pretty one-dimensional. Its only redeeming quality is its distorted sixties-feel. BC is currently on tour with Vampire Weekend.

[Concert] Levi's Secret Concert Series - Neon Indian

The Secret Generator Series: Neon Indian from Yours Truly on Vimeo.

For the second and final concert of the Secret Generator Series from Levi's + Urban Outfitters, Neon Indian played a free show powered by a generator in an abandoned power plant in Boston.

Clock Opera - Once And For All (Little Loud Remix)

Great remix by Little Loud of an already good song by Clock Opera.

[mp3] Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

Live verison of "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Edward and company were playing in Ybor last night and due to my cold I was unable to attend. Caleb over at The Feel Good Movement turned me on to them. Great blog...check them out if you get a chance. Download the track for free below.

[mp3] Japandroids - Heavenward Grand Prix

If you haven't heard of them yet, Japandroids are a mix between the Hold Steady, Tokyo Police Club and a touch of The Drums. Below is the single, available for free download from PMA, Heavenward Grand Prix. Enjoy.

Wednesday, October 13

Nick Swardson's Pretend Time + TPC

After watching Pretend Time the other night, I noticed every time the show returned from break, a Tokyo Police Club song was used. Not sure if Nick's just a fan or the producers are trying to appeal to a younger audience. It was pretty cool nonetheless. Below are a couple songs they used.

Cheer it on!

Nature of the Experiment

The xx - Islands

Slow, hypnotic track by the English band, The xx. Shakira disappointingly covers this song on her latest album.

[Concert] Matt and Kim - Friday, October 15th - State Theatre

Matt and Kim

Fri October 15 8pm | $15/18 | @ State Theatre 687 Central Ave. St. Petersburg 727.895.3045

From www.onelouderphoto.com,

"Matt and Kim proved that they can rock a crowd of hundreds or a sold out crowd of thousands with their performance ahead of Cut Copy at Terminal 5. The Brooklyn duo shattered synth keys and punctured drum heads in support of their new album Grand out now on Fader Label. If you’ve never experienced the insanity that is a Matt and Kim show, go. Go now."

Crystal Castles - Baptism

New song by Crystal Castles. Baptism is a little techno/rave-ish for my taste but it's still good. Looking for more CC? Check out their song, Criminal.

Matt and Kim - Cameras

Another fun song from Matt and Kim. Thanks to Young Teezy for this one.

Tuesday, October 12

[Concert] Vampire Weekend - Tonight, October 12 - Jannus Live

Just found out I'll be at the sold out VW show tonight. I'll let you know how they are. Not a big fan of the new CD but hopefully they'll prove me wrong. Below is the VW and Chromeo duet, "I Could Be Wrong."

Chromeo - "I Could Be Wrong" Feat. Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend by Some Kind of Awesome

TV on the Radio - Staring at the Sun

2007 song from TV on the Radio.

[Concert] Caribou - Sunday, October 17th - Crowbar

Caribou

Sunday October 17 9pm | $10/12 | 18&Up @ Crowbar 1812 N 17th Street Ybor City 813.241.8600

avclub.com review of Caribou's Swim

"Swim finds Snaith diving back into pure sequencing, but the result is his strangest and gutsiest work yet. At first it sounds cold, filled with hissing breakbeats, inky negative space, hard turns, and false endings. But Swim quickly reveals itself as finely textured and melodically generous. The zombie-eyed funk of the opener “Odessa” and the itchy Michael Jackson strut of “Leave House” deliver bona fide pop hooks. “Hannibal,” with its toy-box loops and sinister classical horns, resembles Aphex Twin—before it melts after its midpoint for two minutes of Snaith’s sighed lyrics. Weirdest of all is “Sun,” an unfiltered dose of jungle-house about three steps removed from “Sandstorm.” It’s fitting that Snaith occasionally drops arty pretense in favor of kinetic payoff: His music is generous, so it was only a matter of time before he returned to electronica, the most luxurious genre of all."

Nick Swardson as Lady Gaga's brother, Garry Gaga...kinda music related. Nick's new series, Pretend Time, premiers tonight on Comedy Central. Check it out

Deerhunter - Helicopter

New song by Deerhunter. I listen to a pod cast of them the other day. The lead singer sounds like a dude.

Urban Outfitters Free Music Mondays

El Guincho - Bombay

I've seen this freakin song everywhere. El Guincho is the alias of Spanish musician Pablo Díaz-Reixa. It's not in English but I dig the beat. Plus the video has mas boobies.

EL GUINCHO | Bombay from MGdM | Marc Gómez del Moral on Vimeo.

Strange Overtones

David Byrne, of Talking Heads fame and Brian Eno, composer, producer and musical genius, came together for this 2008 track. The song was first released for free due to the success and popularity of Radiohead's free album "Rainbows." MGMT tried, I stress tried, to pay homage to Brian Eno in the self-titled song on "Congratulations." I'm still baffled by that album. Anywho, check out the real thing below.

Bon Iver - Skinny Love

Bon Iver, pronouced bon-eevair, was founded in 2007 by american folk artist Justin Vernon. After gaining popularity quickly, in 2010 Bon Iver collaborated with rapper Kanye West on the leaked track, "Lost In the World." The track begins with a sample of the Bon Iver track, "Woods."

Understand Rap

Came across this new book, Understand Rap: Explanations of Confusing Rap Lyrics You and Your Grandma Can Understand. Lyrics like "hockey players pagin' me to practice on my wrist" just means this guy is wearing so much jewelry his arm looks like an ice-rink.

Active Child Concert, October 14 - Crowbar

School Of Seven Bells, Active Child & Special Guests

Thu October 14 9pm | $7/10 | 18&Up@ Crowbar 1812 N 17th StreetYbor City 813.241.8600

"Like many bands before them, School of Seven Bells were born as the result of a late-night revelation. Benjamin Curtis connected with sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza in 2004 while their bands — SECRET MACHINES and ON-AIR LIBRARY!, respectively — were on tour. While watching PBS at 3am, Alejandra caught a show about the School of Seven Bells: a mythical South American pickpocket academy that may or may not have existed in the ‘80s. The idea of seven minds working as one appealed to her, as did the phrase’s cryptic musicality, and a creative spark ignited. By the end of 2006, Curtis and the Deheza sisters had completely disappeared into School of Seven Bells. From the outset, it was clear that the trio’s music transcended the usual genre restrictions. School of Seven Bells’ music is full of tensions—Curtis’ gentle guitars wrap around jagged beats; silky vocals hide behind grumpy, alien synthesizers—but the resulting songs are effortlessly cohesive, and insidiously catchy. Elements of dream-pop, Afrobeat, IDM, and 4AD’s gauzier moments provide a constantly shifting frame for the Dehezas’ lyrics, which they write as mysterious missives between the School’s imaginary seven members. (Recorded) ...the three seasoned musicians have taken up full-time residence in a dizzying fantasy world; they move freely within the realm of pickpockets and dreamers, composing a soundtrack according to their own odd, beautiful logic."

Walter Meego - Forever

I think this song is in a commercial, not sure. Really like this song though.

Tuesday, October 5

Caribou - Odessa

It's psych pop. I think this what MGMT was trying to do with Congratulations, but failed

Gold Panda - Same Dream China

I can't find much on the band but its a pretty good song. Mostly instrumental

The Radio Dept

The Radio Dept is a mix between dream pop and chillwave. They hail from Lund, Sweden and have been around since 1995. They're really gaining some steam lately. Below is Heaven's on Fire. Pretty good stuff.

Kid Cudi - Do You Get It

Here's a track from Kid Cudi. Not sure if its gonna be on his album or not. You can download it on the link below, just right click the song on the site and click save as. Pretty good track

Kid Cudi - Do You Get It

Thursday, September 16

Toro y Moi - Talamak

Young Teezy, a contributor who earned a fly nickname by sending me fly music, gave me this song. Just like Washed Out, he too is from South Carolina. I guess they know what they're doing in SC.

Wednesday, September 15

Julian Casablancas

If you're not familiar with him, Julian Casablancas is lead singer and song writer for The Strokes. I hate The Strokes, but I do dig this song

Beat Connection - In The Water

Just stumbled upon this song. It's by Beat Connection. It sounds a little like Friendly Fires and a little like Neon Indian.

Tuesday, September 14

Passion Pit

Although this band is not remotely close to being new and everyone has heard of them (just heard them for a trailer for Life As We Know It, *shakes head) I still want to post their best song in my opinion, I've Got Your Number

The Twelves

The twelves are more popular for their remixes (check out Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance - Twelves Remix) but they have some decent music too. Here's Works For Me.

Two Door Cinema Club

Another track from Two Door Cinema Club. I think I'm a little late on them judging by the million plus hits on the track. A little more pop than I like but still pretty good. Good pick up Messina

Monday, September 13

RAC Remixes

RAC is short for Remix Artist Collective. If you search for music as often as I do, you'll run into these RAC remixes all the time. It's actually pretty cool how they do this shit. There are three guys, one in NYC, one in Portugal, and one in the Netherlands. All have their own sound, but release the music under one name.

Below are two good tracks. The first, a take on the TPC track "Be Good," the second is Ra Ra Riot's "Boy."

Sunday, September 12

Active Child - When Your Love Is Safe

Got this from a friend. Stereogum listed Active Child as one of the best bands of 2010. They're playing at Crowbar in Ybor October 14. I suggest you attend.

Friday, September 10

SEND ME YOUR MUSIC

I was talking to my friend Vee at dinner last night and she asked me if I heard of some band. Can't remember the name but I hadnt heard of them. SEND IT TO ME. I'll post it and share it with everyone. I want this to be more of a blog of everyone's music, with my moderation of course.

Tegan And Sara - Alligator

I was trying to find this song the other day but I forgot what it was called. Check out the Toro y Moi remix, a friend gave it to me the other day.

Cloud Room - Hey Now Now

I forgot about this song until i heard it in a Pringles commercial the other day.

Tuesday, September 7

Washed Out

Underground electronic? Underground electronic.

The Pass - Vultures

New song by The Pass.

Wolfgang - Back to Back (Active Child remix)

Wolfgang is a lot on the pop side, but still pretty good. Here's a Active Child remix of the track Back to Back. Link below.

Wow.

This is an interactive video for Arcade Fire's new song, We Used To Wait. You have to download Google Chrome, but its definitely worth it. Please visit the site as soon as possible.

Arcade Fire

I'm sure everyone has heard of Arcade Fire, ever since their song, Wake Up, was the feature track on Where The Wild Things Are.

Here's a new track from The Suburbs, Ready to Start. It's available on the "24 Free Tracks on iTunes" I posted Monday. I haven't heard the entire album yet but I really dig this song. Check out their album, Funeral. It's worth listening to.

Holy Ghost! - Say My Name

Not sure where I heard this but its pretty good. A little more on the electronic side. Sounds a little like Miike Snow. Check it out.

24 Free Tracks on iTunes

Wow. Every month or so, Urban Outfitters offer an entire CD of awesome music. I stupidly bought one of these in the store for like 15 bucks and had no idea you could download all 20+ tracks for free on their blog. This edition of LSTN has Arcade Fire, Yeasayer, Of Montreal, !!!, Ra Ra Riot, Deerhunter, and a bunch more. DOM - Living In America

I can't find much on this band but I dig the sound. Again, a lot like Passion Pit and MGMT. Awesome song, really catchy. Check it out.

The Naked And Famous

Great new song from The Naked And Famous. Sounds a lot like Passion Pit/MGMT/The Knife. Link below

The Naked And Famous - Young Blood

Faded Paper Figures

VERY Postal Service-ish. Good song, though. Video wouldn't fit, check out the link.

Faded Paper Figures - Metropolis

Rain Machine - Give Blood

This comes from TV on the Radio's Kyp Malone. Not sure why he went solo for this track, sounds just like TVOTR. It's a little different, but give it a couple listens before dismissing it.

Thursday, August 26

Ladyhawke - Paris is Burning

Its an older song from 2008, but definitely worth listening to.

Two Door Cinema Club - I Can Talk

Got this from a friend. The band's called Two Door Cinema Club. I like the sound but the dudes voice sounds like the Death Cab for Cutie guy. Anywho, it's pretty catchy and the video reminds me of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Link below.

Two Door Cinema Club - I Can Talk

Friendly Fires

If you haven't heard of them, you need to immediately. The English dance punk band had great success with their 2008 self titled album and are set to release some new tracks. Check out Skeleton Boy, Jump In The Pool, and Paris.

Below is their new track from the blog PMA, "Stay Here." Enjoy.

Friendly Fires - Stay Here

Monday, August 23

Canada

Canada apparently knows music. Arcade Fire, Tokyo Police Club, Of Montreal, MSTRKRFT, and now Chromeo.

Chromeo is an electrofunk duo with a heavy 80's sound. The songs been getting a lot of air time due to their surprise success at Bonnaroo this year.

Well done Canada...although I still won't forgive you for Nickelback.

Saturday, August 21

Miike Snow - Cult Logic

Miike Snow - Cult Logic. Never been a huge fan of Miike Snow, but they've got a couple good jams. Heavy syth in this one.

Friday, August 20

The Pass

The Pass hails from Louisville, KY and has a Phoenix-like sound. Especially the second song, Crosswalk Stereo, the beginning is almost identical to 1901. You get Phoenix without the dirty french sellout feel!

faux you eyes.

Great article. Sufjan Stevens explains today's state of music. I couldn't agree more...

Music needs to be precious again

Stuff White People Like

Probably the only reason I created this...from stuffwhitepeoplelike.com

"If you mention a band you like and the other person has heard of them, you lose. They own you. It is essential that you like the most obscure music possible."

Urban Outfitters Music Mondays

Every Monday, UO offers 5 free tracks. Some are good, some suck, but fuck they're free. Great site for music, apparently this is better cause I had the Yeasayer video before they did.

This week, The Drums, Mahjongg, Electric Sunset, Lovers, and Bishop Morocco. Here's the link...

Music Mondays

LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends

Great song by LCD, real catchy.

LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends

Yeasayer - Madder Red

Yeasayer's Madder Red. Kinda awesome video.

Delorean - Real Love

Off their new album Subiza. Its a new music genre called blisscore. A little electronic, a little trancy, but altogether a lot good.

Delorean - Real Love

Mashup of Weezy and (500) Days of Summer Soundtrack.

The entire album is available for free at this site. Check out Lollipop Dreams, Sweet Stunt Positions and Vagapop.

Foals - Spanish Sahara

Starts out slow, picks up at the end and lasts 6:54 minutes. And no, that's not what she said.

Foals - Spanish Sahara

Major Lazer + La Roux

The song was featured on a recent episode of Entourage.

A creation of DJ's Diplo and Switch, ML is a fictional Jamaican cartoon character, who lost his arm in a zombie war in 1984. He fights zombies, monsters, parties hard, and has a rocket powered hoverboard. So he's pretty much an awesome Marty McFly. Link below.

Major Lazer & La Roux -In 4 The Kill

The Jump Off

I created this to share music instead of posting every song 20 times on the book to different friends.
