M83 - Midnight City

It's been a while since my last post and since I had some heavy traffic since I've last been on this thing, I figure I'll keep it going....Check out the latest song from French artist, Anthony Gonzalez or as he's best known as, M83.

[mp3] Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Same Mistake

I'm on the fence with this one. Not sure if I dig the new CYHSY sound or not. The familiar distortion you'd expect is almost all but gone along with lead singer Alec Ounsworth actually attempting to sing combines for a weird, unfamiliar feeling. The internet-famed Brooklyn band's album, Hysterical, is out in September. Here's the poppy, all-to-clean sounding, "Same Mistake."

[mp3] Washed Out - Eyes Be Closed

Below is bedroom/dream pop artist Washed Out with the single "Eyes Be Closed." I'll quote my January post of the Georgia native because, quiet frankly, I don't have any more descriptive adjectives left to help a brother out. Read it while listening and you'll get it faux sho. Oh and click the picture below and type in your email for the free mp3. You're welcome.

Yeasayer - Devil and The Deed

New Yeasayer? New Yeasayer. The Faux Your Ears favorite performed their new song, "Devil And The Deed" on Conan the other night. Good mix the new wave and afro beat sound we expect to hear from Yeasayer with a catchy synth hook at 2:50. Not sure when the new album is set to release but it's reassuring to know one is on zee way. Video and mp3 below.

[Album Stream] Bon Iver - Bon Iver

Stream indie folk band Bon Iver's self-titled follow up to 2008's For Emma, Forever Ago. Although it's release is set for June 21st, Apple accidentally leaked the album on iTunes several months ago...oops. Listen below.

Is Tropical - The Greeks

Great track by Is Tropical. The London trio is back at it with the single "The Greeks." I'm not sure what's better, the actual song or the video for this track. The animated infused video features 5 or 6 kids shooting the shit out of each other and dealing coke. mp3 and video below...

Wednesday, June 1

[Stream] Modest Mouse - "Poison" and "Lampshades Of Fire"

As an avid Modest Mouse fan, I'm so pumped to see two new tracks from the Washington band's upcoming album.

Tuesday, May 31

[Concert] Matt & Kim - Tuesday, June 7th - Czar Bar

Matt & Kim

Tues June 7th 8pm | $20/20 | @ Czar Bar 1430 E 7th Ave Ybor City  Tampa, FL 813.247.2664

Come join as the chaotic, synth-infused, conundrum that is Matt & Kim performs at Czar Bar next Tuesday, June 7th.

Yeasayer - Ambling Alp

Take a listen to this fantastic track from Yeasayer's 2010 release, Odd Blood. The song imagines what advice Joe Louis's father would have provided him with before becoming a professional boxer. The song gives mention of former World Heavyweight Champ, Primo Carnera. In 1935, Louis took down all 6'5", 285 lbs of Carnera in 6 rounds  Primo's nickname you ask? The Ambling Alp. Good choice, Yeasayer...much better than naming the song "The Brown Bomber."

Chiddy Bang w/ Matt & Kim - Cameras

Chiddy Bang's back, this time with a sampling of Matt & Kim's single "Cameras." You can download this track as well as the entire mixtape, Peanut Butter and Swelly, below.

Stream the entire new Death Cab For Cutie album, Codes and Keys, here.

Destroyer - Kaputt

On tap is the slightly goofy, jazz influenced, David Bowie-esque single from Canadian artist, Destroyer. The rich 6:18 track is full of cryptic poem-like lyrics and cheesy 80's sax, which becomes almost necessary to the songs success. "Wasting your days chasing some girls, alright/ Chasing cocaine through the backrooms of the world all night," Any song with a saxophone and cocaine references is okay in my book.

[mp3] Bon Iver - Calgary

New Bon Iver track entitled "Calgary," really brings a crisp, refined sound to the artist's familiar distorted feel. Hopefully the new album features more of this new maturity cause I really dig it. Follow the link to listen and download for free.

Oberhofer - I Could Go

Since there is very little good new music out lately I'll post some older stuff I never got around to. Here's an Oberhofer song from last year, haven't heard it in a while...pretty catchy.

TV On The Radio - Second Song

Color me unimpressed with Nine Types of Light, the new TV On The Radio album. This is by far my favorite track off the much awaited fourth album. "Second Song" displays what TVOTR fans are accustom to, which I feel this album lacks. Give it a listen or two.

Wednesday, May 11

Modest Mouse - That'll Be The Day (Buddy Holly Cover)

Modest Mouse does an incredible cover of Buddy Holly's "That'll Be The Day," for the upcoming album Rave On Buddy Holly, out June 28th. What I like most about this cover is how Modest Mouse evolves the song into a true MM track removing the 1950's 'Happy Days' feel of Holly's original.

Tuesday, May 10

[Album Stream] Friendly Fires - Pala

Courtesy of Hype Machine is the album stream of the highly anticipated Friendly Fires album, Pala, due out May 24th. I recommend you give the album a listen, definitely worth your time.

[mp3] Friendly Fires - Blue Cassette

New single from the Euro band, Friendly Fires. Definitely more of an electronic feel than of old but still maintains the trance-like beats you expect from a FF cut. Do enjoy.

[Album Stream] Beastie Boys -HSCP2

Stream the new Beastie Boys here...che, che, che, che, che, check it out.

Ex-Otago - The Rhythm of the Night

Got this from a friend, it's a little goofy but I kinda dig it. In my opinion, Ex-Otago got it right with this cover. It captures the original tracks main elements but Ex-Otago's version is almost an entirely new song. The band took an uninspired, played out 1993 track and made it into so much more.

Sunday, January 30

The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition (RAC Remix)

Good track by remix specialists RAC of the 500 Days of Summer hit, Sweet Disposition. The original is amazing but RAC does a good job of maintaining the songs feel while transforming into something completely different.

Monday, January 24

Miracles Club - Church Song

New track from the Portland band, Miracles Club. Not my favorite but after a few minutes the track becomes almost hypnotic.

Wednesday, January 19

Passion Pit - All These Trees

Faux your listening pleasure, Passion Pit's "All These Trees." I'll admit, I'm a little late on this one... it was featured in American Express' ZYNC campaign during the holidays. I don't expect Passion Pit's new album being released anytime soon, so enjoy this new track in the meantime.

[Event] Coachella 2011

Planning on going to Coachella in Cali this year? I'm not, but if you are, good news. They just released this years line up. The festival will come to the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California on April 15-17. Check out this years line up below straight from the promotional poster itself.

Monday, January 17

Chiddy Bang - Youngblood

If you haven't heard of Chiddy Bang yet, you best listen up.

The duo is comprised of Chidera "Chiddy" Anamege and Noah "Xaphoon Jones" Beresin. The two met while attending Drexel University. Their sound is based on the fusion of hip hop and unique samples from popular indie artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Passion Pit, and MGMT. Above, Chiddy Bang utilizes their lyrical and rythmatic magic to give us the The Naked and Famous remix of "Young Blood."

[Concert] Washed Out @ Crowbar, January 20th - Tampa, FL

Come check out Washed Out at Crowbar on January 20th, 9 P.M.

[Concert] Tokyo Police Club and Two Door Cinema Club @ Crowbar, January 26 - Tampa, FL

Tokyo Police Club and Two Door Cinema Club are coming to Tampa on January 26th.

Tokyo Police Club - Wait Up (Dom Remix)

As much as I love TPC, a remix of their stuff is always refreshing. Here's an impressive remix from the band DOM of the TPC's track, "Wait Up." What I appreciate most about this remix is even though it is technically a remix, DOM embraces the original track so well that it could almost be mistaken for a Tokyo Police Club release.

Toro y Moi - Still Sound

Here's the latest from Toro y Moi's upcoming album, Underneath the Pine. Looking for more Toro y Moi? Give their track Talamak a try.

[mp3] Crystal Castles ft. Robert Smith - Not In Love

Holy shit! I guess Robert Smith from the Cure is not only not dead, but when combined with Crystal Castles, amazing happens. It's free to download from the Crystal Castles site. Check out the track below.

Crystal Castles ft Robert Smith - Not In Love

[mp3] Tennis - Marathon

If you're a fan of Best Coast then you'll love Tennis. I'm not talkin' bald/meth-headed Andre Agassi tennis, either.

Tennis is a husband-wife duo composed of Alaina Moore and Partick Riley. It's a breezy, distorted, harmonizing sound that works, that is if you like this kinda thing. Not my favorite track, but the song is blowing up on the indie scene. Follow the link for a listen and free download. Just right-click the song and click "save as" and the song is yours....faux free.

[Album Stream] Twin Shadow - Forget

From prettymuchamazing.com:

"Twin Shadow is made up solely of George Lewis Jr. and if one had to classify his sound it would be somewhere on the soft rock/new wave spectrum. But it’s tough to say something like that about an album so rich in detail, sophistication and emotion."

My two favorite tracks are, "I Can't Wait" and "Slow." Both tracks are pretty dark in nature, have sort of a Cure-type feel to them, but are catchy nonetheless. Stream Twin Shadow's album, "Forget," above.
